Nintendo Switch Update 4.0.0 Adds Video Capture and More

Nintendo has rolled out a brand new update today for the Nintendo Switch, and boy is it a biggie. The new update, version 4.0.0, brings some new features to the console, including the ability to capture gameplay video. However, it’s still rather limited.

Video capture is only available for a few select first-party games at the time of writing, and they include Breath of the Wild, ARMS, Splatoon 2, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. You can only capture 30 seconds of video and it’s done by holding down the capture button. There’s a handy tutorial video up above, courtesy of Nintendo.

The update also brings data transfers. This means that you’ll be able to transfer your save data and profiles from one Switch system to another. Naturally, this means that once you move a profile and its data from one Switch to another, the original will no longer have that data. Standard stuff, really.

Version 4.0.0 also adds some new user icons from Super Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild. Nice for those who like to customise their profiles, we guess.

Another significant addition is the ability to pre-load select eShop games before release. It’s something that has been commonplace on other consoles, but now we’re finally getting the ability to do so on Nintendo Switch. No more waiting around for hours on end on release day.
